Windows 8有四个版本[1][2]，分别为 Windows 8（标准版）、Windows 8 Pro（专业版）、Windows 8 Enterprise（企业版），Windows RT（ARM版）。其中，专业版增加了一些商业上的应用；企业版专为企业新增了PC管理和部署、安全、虚拟化、移动等功能；Windows RT是首次出现的ARM平台版本，因无法与传统桌面应用程式相容，所以独立成新系统。
此外，微软还针对不同地区发售地区性廉价版本Windows 8中文版、Windows 8 Edition N（欧洲版）、Windows 8 Edition K/KN（韩国版）、Windows 8单语言版，这些版本保留了部份标准版功能。
中国大陆销售的版本为简化配送方式并打击盗版市场，因而仅提供数位下载版[3]。另外Windows 8中文版、单语言版以OEM预装形式出现，不会在零售市场出现。
从Windows 8.1开始，又推出一个免费版本Windows 8.1 Bing版（Windows 8.1 with Bing），但唯一不同的是Bing版在标准版的基础上预载了Bing搜索引擎，并且限制储存空间，因而仅以OEM预装形式出现（像中文版与单语言版一样）。
